Experiences from the Field

"What can one person do?"

IV/AIDS, Teenage pregnancy, Unwed Mothers. All of these are part of life in the Northern Cape and South Africa in general. One missionary in the Northern Cape is trying to help the Northern Cape Coloureds solve these problems with the message of the Gospel. As she uses "True Love Waits" in schools, she is finding literally hundreds of teenagers who are open to the life-giving message. As she explains about abstinence and explains the concept, she also shares God's love and His plan of salvation. Many are signing commitment cards and some are even expressing a desire to learn and teach others. Along with her work in the schools, she also explains God's love and the gift of salvation with an AIDS Bible study. Pray that they can see and hear the Gospel. Pray that they can attend this Bible study despite their physical ailments. Please be in prayer for the Northern Cape Coloureds. Pray that they can know that it is not too late for them to accept the gift that God offers. It is an urgent prayer request. Pray that this missionary will remain strong and faithful to the task God has called her to and that she can impart the urgency and need that burdens her to others.

"Bible Study"

What do you think of when you think of a new Bible Study in rural Africa? A missionary under a tree, going over a Bible story with a group of native Africans. Think again! Praise the Lord for a new Bible study started in Upington. A missionary is teaching ESL, English as a Second Language, to the Northern Cape Coloured, but in addition many Cubans have
also been attending! The Gospel is presented with each class, and last month after the presentation 2 Cuban ladies prayed to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior. This month, another lady accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior.
Praise the Lord for using this ESL/Bible Study class to draw His children to Him! Continue to pray for these ladies as they learn English as a language, but also as they learn the Bible and make it their "Heart Language." Pray that others will also
come to seek Him! Pray that His word will continue to spread!

"Who will come?"

God has proved continually that He can meet anyone, anytime, anywhere! Last month, a Christian worker had the wonderful and exciting privilege to lead 2 ladies from Zimbabwe to the Lord. Upington, South Africa is home to predominantly the Northern Cape Coloureds and is not considered a multinational or multicultural area. However, the Lord shows us continually that He is not limited by any man-made boundaries! After accepting the Lord as their Savior, the two ladies expressed a desire to have a Bible study.
When the Christian worker arrived at their house to start the study, a young 21-year-old man joined them in their study and he also prayed to receive the Lord! The following Sunday, he was in the local church sharing his tremendous testimony in Afrikaans, the local language of the Northern Cape Coloured people group. Praise the Lord for His work in all places and in all circumstances! Continue to pray for these new believers, that they will continue to desire to learn more about the Bible and God's truth. Pray that they will continue to share their testimony with boldness and excitement!
Please continue to pray for the Northern Cape Coloureds!

How Can Anyone Say No?”

Johannes is a middle-aged man without a job. Most days are much the same for him. He’s heard of Jesus, but has never heard the true gospel. He willingly listened. He was attentive to every word spoken by the two believers. He said, “This is the truth, how can anyone not choose to accept Jesus.” And, without hesitation he decided to pray for Jesus to save him.

“Bad Company”

A group of young men, ages 22 to 27, sitting under a tree were approached by three believers. Surprisingly the young men were open and receptive to hear the gospel. They desperately wanted to know Jesus as Lord and Savior but local churches would not allow them in their buildings. They were looked down upon because they smoke and drank alcohol. Their desire to know Jesus was rejected because of their bad habits. Four of them prayed to receive Christ that day.

“A New Heart”

While handing out a few gospel tracts, a couple of missionaries were asked to explain them. Jennifer, a 53 year old Coloured woman, admitted to never attending a church. Yet she seemed desperate to hear the gospel. Over the distractions of her drunken older sister, Jennifer intently listened in hope. She accepted the Lord that day. She thanked the missionaries over and over for coming to share the Good News. She said, “For the first time, now my heart feels good.” Pray for Jennifer to be built up in Christ. In Kakamas, South Africa
